TITAN I (1981)

Behind great success is often an interesting story. The TITAN-STORY begins in 1981, when the curtain rises for a sensational speaker, who will lead active listening to a new dimension: Spearheading the former quadral Phonologue program impressed with hitherto unknown conceptual sophistication of our engineer Helmut Schaper.
TITAN I was far ahead of its time and became a pioneering model for large-scale high-end speakers. From the outset, the name TITAN was standing for an exceedingly fascinating, authentic charismatic sound.

This dream speaker dominates the entire repertoire: abysmal bass, concise, natural sounding middle and crystal clear and finest details as well as most excellent incisively emphasizing treble.

In addition, it had almost incredible performance values: 350 Watt continuous performance and 600 Watt peak power handling can still be seen in this day and age! Even the immense weight of 115 kg documents that not only a noble speaker, but an acoustic total work of art was created here.
In order to realize a fundamental bass reproduction, we sat in the TITAN I on the real transmission line principle (delay line). In transmission line structures the rear sound of the bass loudspeaker passes through a precisely calculated channel into the open air and is added there to the direct sound of the bass system. Specialty of the construction: Mr. Schaper ordered the bass speaker above the housing on the front side and folded the transmission line channel once on the housing bottom. The rear sound of the woofer could emerge out of the top of the housing cover.

To reduce pipe resonances to a minimum, Mr Schaper damped the sound channels with mineral fiber mats. Of course, our first TITAN convinced not only in the bass range - the specially developed cone midrange shone with exemplary transient response, and for the treble we used a ribbon tweeter, which can reproduce high overtones particularly accurate in every detail. Also the crossover corresponded highest quality requirements: extremely low manufacturing tolerances for all components made sure the speakers perfectly matched.

(1984) TITAN II

With its appearance at the end of 1981 TITAN I defined the concept of a high-end box to the highest possible quality, extremely near to the ideal and its purchase price was absolutely fair. No Image bonus. No brands bonus. Simply the best possible sound for the money. The challenge for the then quadral chief developer Helmut Schaper soon became yet to beat the outstanding TITAN I.
Decorated with numerous test wins, TITAN I was a sensational success, as it can be very rarely celebrated. This path was continued by TITAN II. Detail work, especially on the chassis, provided the desired effect: even more dynamic, impulse-true, yet subtle - TITAN II also stormed to the top. Technological capability in mind Mr Schaper had created a masterpiece again, composed of the best ingredients, designed with care and refinement, made for a listener who places high demands on quality of reproduction.

Thus, the TITAN-STORY continued inexorably, always in the sense of the best possible reproduction quality. To come closer to the original has always been intent and responsibility for us at quadral towards the audiophile customers with highest demands.
TITAN II could further intensify the feeling to be absorbed in music and to experience music instead of just listening, by activating them with high-ended quadral amplifiers. An excellent passive loudspeaker became an exemplary active speaker. An amplifier was there optimized for bass reproduction, two other active components for medium and treble. This again led to an improved dynamic range − and you could benefit from the amplifiers and speakers matching perfectly.

TITAN III (1987)

TITAN I and TITAN II became myths very soon. Their performance, as well as their sensitivity to subtle musical detail, their exemplary neutrality and not least their fair purchase price made them the German high-end speakers of the 80s at all. Countless test wins and buying recommendations created an undisputed special status which should still be solidified by TITAN III.
Overall, TITAN III showed that we not only raise any challenge, but we steadily perfect even our reference speakers out of an inner motivation. Our developers did not want to rest on our laurels, but again expand the boundaries of the acoustic feasible. Namely, in the form of an evolutionary development of the known, of leading journalists and discerning listeners valued previous technologies. Therefore, our developers had to come up with something to nurture the third generation of our top model to even more potent sonic "Titans". The TITAN III thus became another milestone which moved the name quadral Phonologue further into the focus of music lovers with higher demands.
The development department of quadral designed a completely new chassis for the medium and low frequencies with a sophisticated, extremely linear drive technology. Particularly impressive: the gigantic, 7.5 kg magnet woofer for a taut yet deep bass reproduction.

In addition, not only classical music lovers appreciate crystal clear and high-resolution high tones. For us it was a matter of course, to also select only the best of what the market had to offer: an isodynamic ribbon tweeter with superior fine detail and transient response.

Right to bear came our new state-of-the-art chassis but only through carefully with quality, strictly selected components and the tuned 9 kg crossover.

We also wanted to refine TITAN III visually. Therefore, the processing of the case-appearance was in the specifications of the engineering and design department.

(1990) TITAN IV

Already a decade the reference of the high-end speakers were wearing the name TITAN. quadral's "acoustic giants" were always at the height of its time and mastered every challenge. Thus, they were able to elicit the maximum acoustic authenticity not only out of vinyl records, but also CDs. TITAN meant to move the concert right into your living room and experience music first hand.
Of course, the new generation of high-end sound transducers wanted to be at the top again: TITAN IV followed the footsteps of its famous ancestors, ready to take on the acoustic guide in the league of high-fidelity speakers.

The high-quality housing, that already distinguished TITAN III, has at least not been changed externally. To prudently optimize the steady evolution to perfection was and is the target of quadral − this includes the preservation of proven quality components and sophisticated design principles that correspond to the "state-of-the-art".

TITAN IV was another milestone in the loudspeaker development and gave quadrals motto "All near to the ideal" new glory.
To set new standards, we have given the TITAN IV numerous detail improvements: We modified the transmission line, which resulted in an increase in efficiency by as much as three decibels in the bass range. In addition, woofers and midrange and crossover were sonically refined. Also the bi-amping connection terminals were now used, so that different amplifiers could drive the mid/treble and the bass.

Thanks to the low impedance characteristic, TITAN IV was to operate with "ordinary" amplifiers − the combination of superior sound quality with beneficial practicality evolved from then on to the typical feature of quadral speakers.

TITAN V (1996)

In the mid-90s, when technique was unstoppable paced ahead, quadral succeeded to climb a new peak of loudspeaker technology and got a lot closer to the ideal. TITAN V embodied optically a step into a new era: slim, athletic, noble it stood in front of its viewers. This generation of loudspeakers wanted to be regarded not only as a technical, but also as an aesthetic masterpiece.
Times are changing and yet some things endure. For example our TITAN, which always strives for the tip of the acoustically feasible by continuously improving focusing on the highest quality. Those who are enthusiastic for visual and audible premium quality and who like to call a sound transducer its own, which is not only a speaker, but also an expression of an individual life philosophy, have always been right with the models of TITAN.

The narrow, forwardly tapering design became a raw model for an entire generation of speakers: quadral new AURUM family. A surface delivered in valuable real wood helped this generation to a very dignified appearance, which is reflected in an outstanding sound quality.
Technically, the built-in active bass amp with rich 400 watts of power was a novelty in the history of quadral transmission lines. It gave TITAN V exceptional power reserves and perfect control of each membrane movement. Still, for accurate vocal reproduction a conscientiously tuned midrange is crucial. An equally light and stiff cone diaphragm increases the resolving power and ensures the impressive structure of the subwoofer range. At the same time a high-definition midrange band is dedicated to the presence area. The tweeter is also working according to the ribbon principle which ensures that a refreshing purity and transparency is kept to the highest pitch.

TITAN V became a high-performance speaker, and was soon to find in the List of the Best of leading international publications. TITAN V represented a previously unknown synthesis of visual and acoustic finesse – quite like a musical instrument constructed by a master hand that produces its beguiling effect both with optical and acoustic beauty.

(2001) TITAN VI

To be and remain innovative means to always have the ideal in mind and realize the technically feasible. For over two decades, it is our ambition to build speakers that inspire in every detail and let the listener immerse deep into music. Our TITAN speakers always opened new doors to hitherto hidden musical details, and with each generation high-end audio enthusiasts could find an even more intensive access to their favorite music. The maxim of putting together our best available ingredients to create an impressive body of work was the leitmotif in the creation of this new generation. Bernd Starck, creator of the TITAN VI, put much emphasis on outstanding quality and perfect interaction in the selection of components, craftsmanship and of course in the acoustic fine-tuning. The result was a speaker that clearly carried its signature and impressed trade press as well as hi-fi fans alike.
The exterior already reveals a close relationship of TITAN VI with fine musical instruments. Whether an exceptional violin or an exceptional speaker celebrates its birth: There's always more to it than just the constructive sequence of plain technical considerations. It is a perfect synthesis of knowledge, artful crafts and emotionality. Thus TITAN VI appeals to all senses alike, impressive, but not overpowering, it cultivates every listening room without taking it. Every touch arouses enthusiasm. The surface in fine woods is equal to the best quality furniture. And the sound variety lets you forget that you are sitting in your living room and not in the concert hall. TITAN VI continues our way to pure, emotionally profound musical experience seamlessly.
The success of the TITAN VI contains numerous technical refinements. For example, our RiCom tweeter with its very light, annular bending vibrator membrane that unlike piston vibrators (such as caps) must push along less air mass to produce sound. Sonically its particular strengths are the distinctive brilliance and the exceptional ability to differentiate in the overtone range.

In woofer/midrange ALTIMA® membranes set new standards. They combine the three light metals aluminum, titanium and magnesium with one another in order to achieve a perfect oscillation behavior.

Also innovative is the pressure chamber reflex design of the housing. The rears of the woofer are working on a bass reflex, the fronts work on a pressure chamber. This technique originated from professional studio monitors and is unprecedented in hi-fi speakers. A combination of pressure chamber and reflex principle allows an extensive draft, coupled with highest precision. Even better: low sounds always remain contoured and sublime, even at very high levels.

Since 28 years now, the name TITAN stands for a loudspeaker series that takes listening experience into new dimensions. More impressive than ever, TITAN VII embodies the requirements of its designers to build loudspeakers near to the ideal. The unusual shape of this sound icon is not least due to the stunning 380 mm woofer, which together with the new ribbon tweeter provides rousing sound experiences.

TITAN VII owes its status as an exceptional phenomenon to numerous technical innovations and optimizations. For example, the ribbon tweeter was completely redeveloped according to the magnetostatic principle: his wafer-thin and lightweight membrane is in close contact with four gigantic powerful neodymium magnetic bars. Compared to its predecessor, the membrane surface is four times bigger. This allows TITAN VII to be used one octave deeper and to generate 10dB more maximum pressure!

Refined AURUM ALTIMA® membranes of the large woofer and midrange driver have an equally positive effect on the power. TITAN midrange driver has unsuspected reserves of power and also dissipates the voice coil heat optimally.

With the sophisticated pressure chamber bass reflex design of the housing both sides of the woofer cone come up against the same air resistance, which enables a perfectly symmetrical oscillation and enhances sound neutrality. A reduced diaphragm movement also enables profound and pleasingly tight basses. To really exploit every possibility for sound improvement, specially selected components were used on the crossover of TITAN VII. This is divided into two parts, so that low and middle-treble parts do not influence each other mutually. The special internal wiring with Real Cable® reduces skin and ohmic effects as well as inductive losses.

For over 30 years the name TITAN is a speaker series that takes the listening experience into new dimensions. Characteristics of each TITAN are the fusion of traditional and innovative technologies in terms of a continuous development of the sound picture. A major challenge for Sascha Reckert, developer of the eighth TITAN generation, which he mastered with flying colors.
Completed in form and sound TITAN VIII thrilled professionals and hi-fi experts who swarm in superlatives of the eighth generation of the TITAN series from the outset. New TITAN creates an overwhelming high-end platform with unprecedented clarity, fine detail and tonal colors with almost unbelievable dynamics and unparalleled sovereignty. Its musical intensity and passion is extraordinary and poignant.
TITAN VIII owes its status as an exceptional phenomenon to numerous technical innovations and optimizations. So the ribbon tweeter was developed entirely on the principle of a real ribbon loudspeaker: its thin and lightweight membrane is in close contact with two gigantic powerful neodymium magnet blocks. Compared to its predecessor, the membrane is slightly narrower, can handle significantly more strokes and is so effectively damped in the rear area that this ribbon makes music more persuasive and reproduces subtle details of sound with superior ease!

The refined AURUM ALTIMA® membranes of the large woofer and midrange driver have an equally positive effect on the power. TITAN midrange driver has unsuspected reserves of power and also dissipates the voice coil heat optimally. The assembly of the three light metals aluminum, titanium and magnesium makes it possible to bundle the inevitable resonances at high tones. To perfectly complement this pure sound experience the two immensely watt strong 26 cm woofers deliver unmatched dynamics and acoustic color.

TITAN 9 (2016)

1981 the first TITAN wrote history. With its presence and its extraordinary sound it inspired trade press and customers alike. 35 years later Generation 9 sees the light of day. And again it makes its mark: 145 cm high, and more than 80 kg of pure craftsmanship.
